Responsible Gambling

Betting should be entertainment. The rules in Denmark and where to get help.

Clara Tauson Tennis is about tennis, but a few of our pages deal with odds, predictions and bookmakers. So we want to be clear about the rules: gambling is for adults aged 18 and over only, and it should be entertainment – never a way to make money, recover a loss or solve financial problems.

18+ and a Danish licence

In Denmark you must be at least 18 to gamble, and the operator must check your age and identity, usually with MitID. Only use operators licensed by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden). Only they are bound by the Danish player-protection rules, and only they are connected to ROFUS.

Set limits in advance

With operators licensed in Denmark you must choose a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit before you can play. If you raise it, the change takes effect after 24 hours at the earliest. Use that limit and add your own rules:

  • Decide the amount before you start and treat it as the price of the entertainment.
  • Never bet with borrowed money or money meant for rent, bills or food.
  • Do not try to win back a loss by staking more.
  • Take breaks, and do not bet when you are drunk, tired, upset or stressed.
  • Live betting is fast – set your limit before the match starts.

Warning signs

A gambling problem often creeps up slowly. Pay attention if you recognise one or more of these signs in yourself or someone close to you:

  • You spend more money or time on gambling than you planned.
  • You hide your gambling or lie about it to family and friends.
  • You borrow money or sell things in order to gamble.
  • You feel restless or irritable when you try to stop.
  • Gambling affects your work, studies, finances or relationships.

Self-exclusion with ROFUS

ROFUS, the Danish register of voluntarily excluded players, is run by the Danish Gambling Authority. Once registered, you are excluded from all operators licensed in Denmark: for 24 hours, for one, three or six months, or permanently. A permanent exclusion does not expire by itself; you can ask for it to be lifted after one year at the earliest. You register with MitID at rofus.nu.
