The 2021 debut: a title in Chicago and Barty in round two

Tauson came to her first US Open in 2021 with a fresh title. Shortly before, she had won the WTA 125 event in Chicago, beating Emma Raducanu in the final – weeks before Raducanu won the US Open itself. In New York Tauson won her first match and then met Australia's Ashleigh Barty in round two. Barty won 6-1, 7-5.

The week after the US Open, Tauson won her second WTA title in Luxembourg, making late summer 2021 one of the best spells of her career; she finished the year ranked No. 44. In 2022, a season disrupted by injuries, she lost in the first round to Spain's Garbiñe Muguruza, 3-6, 6-7(5). All her titles are on Clara Tauson titles and finals.

Clara Tauson US Open 2023: round two in her comeback year

2023 was the year she worked her way back from injuries. She had missed the Australian Open, come through qualifying to the third round of the French Open and lost in Wimbledon qualifying. At the 2023 US Open she was a direct entry and won her opening match.

2024: Shnaider in round two

In 2024 she arrived in New York a few weeks after the Paris Olympics. Again she won her first match, and again it ended in round two, this time 4-6, 4-6 against Diana Shnaider. Just before the tournament she confirmed to Se og Hør that she is in a relationship with former player Kasper Elsvad, who also became her coach in September 2024. More on Clara Tauson's boyfriend.

2025: 6-7(11) in the third set against Alex Eala

Summer 2025 was her best on hard courts. In Montreal she beat both Iga Świątek and Madison Keys to reach a WTA 1000 semifinal, and the following week she lost in the second round in Cincinnati to Veronika Kudermetova. At the US Open she drew Alexandra "Alex" Eala of the Philippines, then ranked No. 75.

It became one of the most dramatic matches of her season. Tauson lost the first set 3-6, won the second 6-2, and the decider went to a tiebreak that Eala won 13-11, for a final score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-7(11). Despite the defeat she rose to No. 12 in the world on 8 September 2025, which as of 25 October 2026 is still her career high.

2026: defeat to Sloane Stephens

In 2026 she came to New York after a mixed summer: the second round in Cincinnati and a quarterfinal in Monterrey, where she beat Ekaterina Alexandrova. At the US Open she lost in the first round to Sloane Stephens of the USA, 4-6, 1-6, on 31 August.

It was her last Grand Slam match of 2026. Afterwards she played Beijing and Wuhan, where on 12 October she retired against Marie Bouzková with a calf injury, and two days later she ended her season.
