Twice she has come through qualifying, in 2020 and 2023, and both times she went on to win main-draw matches. That says a lot about how comfortable she has become on the Paris clay, even though most of her season is played on hard courts. Compare with the other majors on Clara Tauson at the Grand Slams.

The 2020 debut: from qualifying to round two

The 2020 French Open was played in September and October after the pandemic pushed it back from the spring. The 17-year-old Tauson won three qualifying matches and then her first Grand Slam main-draw match. In round two she lost 2-6, 3-6 to Danielle Collins of the USA.

In 2021, the season of her first WTA title in Lyon, she was a direct entry. She won her opening match in Paris and then lost to Victoria Azarenka in round two. In 2022 she had to withdraw: a back injury cost her first Rome and then the French Open.

2023: through qualifying to the third round

In 2023 she was back in qualifying after finishing 2022 ranked No. 128. She won all three qualifying matches and two more in the main draw. In round three she took the first set against Armenia's Elina Avanesyan, but the match ended 6-3, 1-6, 5-7. The photo here is from qualifying in May 2023.

The tournament was a turning point in a season of working her way back from injuries. She finished 2023 ranked No. 85, back inside the top 100.

Clara Tauson at Roland Garros 2024: fourth round against Jabeur

Her best French Open came in 2024. She won three matches to reach the fourth round, where Tunisia's Ons Jabeur won 6-4, 6-4. At the time it was her best Grand Slam result, and she only matched it again at Wimbledon 2025.

The result also mattered for the Olympics. The ranking points from Paris secured her a place at the Paris Games that summer, where the tennis was played on the Roland Garros clay. She lost in the first round to Bianca Andreescu – more on Clara Tauson at the Olympics.

2025 and 2026: Anisimova and Snigur

In 2025 she beat Magda Linette 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 7-6(2), 7-5, before losing 6-7(4), 4-6 to Amanda Anisimova of the USA in round three. Clay was her weakest surface that season at four wins and five losses, although in Rome she beat world No. 9 Emma Navarro.

Her 2026 build-up was dominated by her back. She retired against Oleksandra Oliynykova in Rome and lost to Jaqueline Cristian in Strasbourg. On 22 May 2026 she told TV 2 that she has two herniated discs and had chosen not to have surgery. At the same time she was without her coach and boyfriend Kasper Elsvad, who according to Eurosport had gone home because of illness in the family.

On 24 May she won the first set against Ukraine's Daria Snigur, but physical problems in the third set led to a 6-3, 5-7, 2-6 defeat – her earliest exit in Paris. The full injury story is on the page with Clara Tauson news.

When will Clara Tauson play the French Open again?

The 2027 French Open will be played as usual in late May and early June, but as of 25 October 2026 her schedule for next season is not known. Clara Tauson ended her 2026 season on 14 October after a calf injury in Wuhan.

Clara Tauson has ended her 2026 season because of injuries, and her first tournament of 2027 has not been announced yet. The first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, is played on 17–31 January 2027.

Because she lost in round one in 2026, she has very few points to defend in Paris next year, so a good clay season in 2027 could help her climb the rankings again – provided her back holds up. Her schedule will appear on Clara Tauson's next match as soon as it is announced.
