Clara Tauson's parents are Søren Tauson, a former Danish ice-hockey international, and Tine Lindgaard Tauson. The former tennis professional Michael Tauson is not her father but her uncle. This page sums up what is publicly known about her family – with sources, and without going further into private life than the family itself has done.
Clara Tauson parents: Søren and Tine Tauson
Her father is Søren Tauson, born in 1969. Her mother is Tine Lindgaard Tauson. The mother's name comes from the Danish Wikipedia; she has not appeared in the media in connection with her daughter's career, so we mention only her name.
Her father has been the more visible parent. He travelled with her as coach and companion during her junior years, and when the family spoke about funding, coaching changes and sponsors between 2017 and 2023, he was often the one quoted by TV 2 and B.T.
Clara Tauson father: Søren Tauson and ice hockey
Søren Tauson is a former Danish national-team ice-hockey player who played club hockey for Hellerup IK, Gentofte Stars and Rødovre. He came from a different sport, but he knew the demands of elite sport and followed his daughter closely on the road while she was a junior.
When she won the Australian Open girls' title in January 2019, B.T. ran an interview with her proud father. He was also among those who spoke for the family when the partnership with Belgian coach Olivier Jeunehomme ended in December 2022 – the explanation to TV 2 was that the family could not afford to renew the contract.
Michael Tauson: her uncle, not her father
Because of the name, many people assume Michael Tauson is her father. He is not. Michael Tauson, born on 25 June 1966, is Søren Tauson's older brother – her paternal uncle.
He was a professional himself: his best ATP ranking was No. 101, he played Davis Cup for Denmark from 1985 to 1991 and competed at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Later he was club manager and assistant coach at HIK Tennis in 2016–2018, when his niece trained there, and today many Danish viewers know him as a tennis commentator on TV 2.
At HIK she trained alongside several well-known Danish tennis names: besides her uncle, Kenneth Carlsen and Tine Scheuer-Larsen were involved, and Lars Christensen had coached her since she was about nine. Those were the years in which she became Danish women's champion at 13. Michael Tauson played a part in her junior development, but he has not been her coach on the WTA Tour – see Clara Tauson's coaches.
Is Clara Tauson the daughter of Michael Tauson?
No. Clara Tauson is the daughter of Søren Tauson; Michael Tauson is her uncle. The confusion is understandable: they share a surname, Michael Tauson is the best-known tennis name in the family, and he is regularly on screen as a commentator when she plays. The relationship is confirmed by, among others, Ekstra Bladet, DR, her WTA biography and the Danish encyclopaedia lex.dk.
Siblings and grandparents
According to the Danish Wikipedia, she has a younger sister, Cecilia, and an older half-sister, Caroline Groth Tauson, a former middle-distance runner with Sparta Atletik. This comes from Wikipedia only, and neither sister has played a public role in her career, so we leave it there.
Ice hockey goes back generations in the family: her grandfather Peter Tauson played, and so did another uncle, Christian Tauson. With a father and grandfather from ice hockey and an uncle from the ATP Tour, she grew up in a family where elite sport was part of everyday life.
This is a deliberate choice on our part. Clara Tauson is a public figure as an athlete; her family is not. We only write about relatives who have had a public role in her career or in Danish sport, and only what established media or reference works have reported.
The family and the cost of a career
The family paid for her tennis themselves until 2017. In 2017–2018 her father estimated the cost of a season at around DKK 650,000, and the family began looking for sponsors. Bigger deals followed from 2019, including one with investor Lars Seier Christensen's Seier Capital – see Clara Tauson's sponsors.
Money mattered again later, when the Jeunehomme partnership – the coach behind her 2021 titles in Lyon and Luxembourg – ended for financial reasons. Since then prize money has changed the picture: according to the WTA she has earned $5,762,435 (about DKK 38 million) in her career. Today her coach is her boyfriend Kasper Elsvad – read more on the Clara Tauson boyfriend page and about her background on the height, age and biography page.
