Clara Tauson WTA Ranking

Where is Clara Tauson in the WTA rankings right now? Current position, points, career high and why she dropped in 2026.

Updated 25 October 2026 ·

Clara Tauson ranking: she is No. 54 in the WTA singles rankings with 1,074 points (as of 19 October 2026). Her career high is No. 12, first reached on 8 September 2025. She dropped in 2026 mainly because she had to defend a lot of points from her best season while her back, and later her calf, held her back.

Clara Tauson WTA ranking right now

The WTA publishes the official rankings every Monday. On the latest list she is No. 54 with 1,074 points, with 24 tournaments counting towards her total for the past 52 weeks (as of 19 October 2026). In doubles she is No. 104, with a career high of No. 56 (23 February 2026).

The WTA also runs a season-only list, the Race, where only points from the current calendar year count; she was No. 47 there on 19 October 2026. The Race decides who qualifies for the WTA Finals, while the regular 52-week ranking is used for tournament entry and seeding.

How WTA ranking points work

The WTA ranking is a rolling total of the last 52 weeks. Each tournament awards points by round reached – the Grand Slams most, then WTA 1000, 500 and 250 events, then WTA 125 and ITF events – and only a limited number of a player's best results count. Points expire after a year: when a tournament comes round again, last year's points drop off and this year's result replaces them. A player who won a title or reached a final the year before has to go as far again just to stand still. That is "defending points", and it explains much of Clara Tauson's 2026.

She started the year at No. 14 with 2,530 points and had big 2025 results to defend: the Auckland title, the Dubai final, the Wimbledon fourth round and the Montreal semi-final. The table shows when those points went:

  • After Dubai (February): the 2025 final was replaced by a quarter-final – 2,530 down to 2,095 points.
  • After Wimbledon (July): a fourth round became a first-round loss – 1,804 down to 1,574.
  • After the Canadian Open (August): a semi-final became a second-round loss – 1,564 down to 1,184.

In between came the back problems from March, retirements in Miami and Rome, missed events in Linz and Stuttgart, and on 22 May the news of two herniated discs. She went more than 100 days without a win until Bad Homburg on 22 June, and after the calf injury in Wuhan on 12 October she ended her season two days later.

The fall was gradual rather than sudden: she was around the top 20 until late May and No. 30 through July, before the Canadian Open points went and she dropped into the 40s.

Career high: No. 12 (first on 8 September 2025). Source: WTA.

She won her first two WTA titles in 2021, Lyon and Luxembourg, and finished No. 44. She reached No. 33 in February 2022 before injuries pushed her out of the top 100 (No. 128 at year-end). Then came steady progress – No. 85 in 2023, No. 52 in 2024 – and No. 12 in 2025.

What happens to her ranking while she is out?

While she does not play she cannot earn new points. Her results from the past 52 weeks stay on her total until the same tournament comes round a year later, when they drop off. Her early-2026 results – the Australian Open third round, the Abu Dhabi semi-final and the Dubai quarter-final – therefore expire during January and February 2027. If she misses those events or goes out earlier, she loses the points without replacing them, and other players can pass her as they earn points. On the other hand she has relatively few points to defend from late 2026, when she lost early several times.

The WTA also has a special (protected) ranking rule for players returning from long absences; according to tennis365, a WTA player can use it at eight tournaments within a year, or twelve after more than a year out. As of 25 October 2026 nothing has been said about Tauson applying for one, and her break so far covers the rest of 2026.

Clara Tauson has ended her 2026 season because of injuries, and her first tournament of 2027 has not been announced yet. The first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, is played on 17–31 January 2027.
